Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary owner for a specific gameplay domain
- Develop deep understanding of the intended player audience and product objectives
- Stay informed on industry trends and competing titles
- Collaborate with the Gameplay Design Director to establish a clear direction for your area
- Work alongside producers and technical leads to guide your team effectively
- Lead the creation and prioritization of your team’s task backlog
- Partner with QA to ensure thorough testing of gameplay features and coordinate external testing when necessary
- Assess development progress and game quality, adjusting plans with Production as needed
- Work closely with team members to craft designs that fulfill shared feature goals
- Follow and contribute to established creative workflows and documentation standards
- Ensure design documentation is produced on schedule
- Coordinate with Engineers and Animators to bring design concepts to life
- Lead a cross-functional team of 5 to 10 developers in partnership with Project Management and technical leads
- Advocate for the player’s perspective in all design and development decisions
- Continuously review and refine the product, updating and organizing the backlog
- Motivate and align your team around a unified vision for your gameplay area
- Communicate design visions clearly and with enthusiasm to stakeholders
- Share design updates asynchronously to improve transparency and team alignment
- Collaborate directly with Engineers, Animators, and Artists during implementation
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and cooperative team culture
- Contribute individual design work when capacity allows
- Gain familiarity with the technical architecture and systems underlying the game
- Demonstrate WGLL by being proficient and active within the game engine to deliver high-quality experiences
