The Senior Digital Engineer will design and deliver comprehensive digital solutions that turn test data into actionable insights, improve engineering processes, and accelerate learning within aerospace development programs. This position emphasizes full stack development, systems architecture, and integration across test, data, and cloud environments.
Responsibilities
- Create full stack applications that enhance test and evaluation processes, support decision-making, and increase engineering efficiency
- Transform unclear engineering challenges into well-defined digital solutions while balancing usability, performance, and scalability
- Develop both front-end and back-end services using modern technologies such as React, Node.js, Python, and .NET
- Design and implement APIs and service interfaces to integrate test systems with analytics platforms and enterprise tools
- Architect complete systems that span applications, data services, and cloud infrastructure
- Assess and choose cloud services on AWS and Azure based on cost, usability, scalability, and long-term maintenance
- Use infrastructure as code tools like Terraform, CloudFormation, ARM, or Bicep for secure, repeatable deployments
- Design solutions that operate in multi-cloud and hybrid environments as program requirements dictate
- Develop data models and storage architectures supporting both transactional and analytical workloads
- Build and integrate data services enabling engineers to efficiently discover, explore, and reuse test data
- Work with data scientists and analysts to support analytics, visualization, and machine learning workflows without exposing users to infrastructure complexity
- Construct CI/CD pipelines to enable fast iteration, testing, and safe application deployment
- Apply Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) principles to ensure system reliability, observability, and operational excellence
- Develop and maintain observability systems—including logs, metrics, and traces—to support rapid troubleshooting and performance optimization
- Collaborate with security and compliance teams to meet organizational security, data governance, and regulatory standards
- Contribute to operational documentation, runbooks, and ongoing improvement initiatives
- Partner with engineers, product owners, and stakeholders to shape digital roadmaps and technical strategies
- Influence architectural and design decisions across programs using systems thinking and sound engineering judgment
- Collaborate with peers to grow the internal Digital Engineering community
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, or a non-U.S. equivalent in a field directly related to the role
- Minimum of 5 years of experience building full stack applications using modern development frameworks
- Strong systems thinking with proven experience designing end-to-end software solutions
- Proficient in one or more programming languages such as JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, C#, or Go
- Experience deploying and managing applications in cloud environments, including AWS and/or Azure
- Hands-on experience with infrastructure as code tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, ARM, or Bicep
- Working knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, Git, Docker, and Linux environments
- Experience designing relational databases like PostgreSQL, including schema design and performance optimization
- Familiarity with security best practices including identity and access management, secrets management, and network security controls
Nice to Have
- Experience building developer platforms or internal engineering tools
- Background in Digital Engineering, Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), or engineering workflow automation
- Cloud certifications from AWS and/or Azure
- Experience with Kubernetes, serverless architectures, or event-driven systems
- Exposure to data pipelines, analytics platforms, or data-driven applications
- Experience working in regulated or safety-critical environments
