Expedia Group is looking for a Senior Data Engineer to design, build, and support scalable, durable data solutions. In this role, you will enable self-service consumption and lead a critical project to provide key advertising performance reporting by combining billions of records of user and clickstream data.
What You'll Do
- Design, build, and support scalable and durable data solutions that enable self-service consumption use cases using cloud-based technologies.
- Support Expedia Group’s product and business teams’ specific data needs on a global scale.
- Write clean, efficient, and thoroughly tested code.
- Develop scalable and highly-performant distributed systems with a focus on availability, monitoring, and resiliency.
- Work with business partners to flesh out and deliver on requirements in an agile manner.
- Evolve development standards and practices.
- Take architectural ownership for various critical components and systems.
- Proactive problem-solving at the organization level.
- Communicate and document solutions and design decisions.
- Build bridges between technical teams to enable valuable collaborations.
- Lead and design through ambiguous, complex systems.
- Lead a project to provide key advertising performance reporting measurements by combining and curating billions of records of user and clickstream data.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computing, or a related field.
- 6 years of progressive, postbaccalaureate experience in the job offered or in a software engineer-related occupation.
- Hands-on experience with Apache Spark, Apache Kafka, Apache Flink, Splunk, and Datadog.
- Proficiency with NoSQL and SQL databases.
- Strong programming skills in Java and Scala.
- Experience with Apache Airflow.
- Familiarity with a Data Visualization Tool such as Tableau or Looker.
- Experience with Github Actions and CI/CD tools.

Compensation for this role in Chicago is $161,000 to $225,500 per year. Starting pay varies based on location, budget, knowledge, skills, and experience.

This position follows a hybrid work model and is based in Chicago.
