WaFd Bank is hiring a Senior Data Engineer

Responsibilities

  • Architect, develop, and manage cloud data infrastructure, including data warehouses, databases, and Lakehouse environments that serve analytical and operational requirements.
  • Manage daily platform operations, including compute and storage resources, role-based permissions, system monitoring, and optimization of performance and costs.
  • Design, implement, and sustain automated, high-efficiency data pipelines for ETL workflows.
  • Own and develop integrations that transfer data between core systems and the data platform using APIs, change-data-capture, and batch processes, ensuring reliability, timeliness, observability, and scalability.
  • Collaborate independently and with teams to design and deploy database structures such as tables, views, and schemas to meet business analytics needs.
  • Process raw data into usable formats through cleansing, aggregation, filtering, and enrichment, balancing efficiency, maintainability, and clarity for end users.
  • Develop and execute strategies to ensure data quality, consistency, and integrity across systems, including automated validation checks.
  • Support data governance initiatives, contribute to data classification, and recommend improvements to enterprise data management practices.
  • Produce and maintain documentation, standards, procedures, and role definitions to support best practices and ongoing operations.
  • Champion effective documentation standards both within the team and across external groups.
  • Comply with all relevant legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Stay informed about data security risks, privacy laws, and compliance policies; design systems with auditability, access controls, and change management in mind.
  • Implement safeguards to prevent unauthorized or accidental data exposure, modification, or loss; support access and security administration.
  • Act as a key technical expert, handling complex system issues, evaluating emerging technologies, and leading cross-functional technical efforts.
  • Guide analysts, stakeholders, and junior staff on data tools, technologies, and best practices; provide mentorship to less experienced team members.
  • Remain current on evolving regulations, industry standards, tools, and innovations through training, reading, and professional engagement.
  • Apply new insights to enhance operational processes, technical procedures, and strategic direction.
  • Foster collaboration and fulfill additional tasks as needed to support team objectives.
  • Ensure all activities align with organizational business goals and operational integrity.
  • Follow internal policies complying with federal regulations such as the Bank Secrecy Act, USA Patriot Act, and OFAC rules.
  • Deliver accurate and timely reports and maintain required records.
  • Successfully complete all mandatory eLearning modules and certification requirements.
  • Consistently follow security and compliance protocols in all duties.
  • Avoid conflicts of interest and uphold strict confidentiality and privacy standards for client information.
