Responsibilities
- Lead zero-to-one builds and redesigns of Shopify stores — designing high-converting product pages, collection experiences, cart & checkout flows, navigation structures, and full-site architectures optimized for the Shopify platform
- Conduct eCommerce-focused product and user discovery research (user interviews, competitive Shopify audits, journey mapping, usability testing, and CRO analysis) to identify opportunities that increase conversions and reduce friction
- Create feature lists, user stories, information architecture diagrams, and Shopify-optimized sitemaps that support scalable merchandising and seamless shopping journeys
- Wireframe and prototype end-to-end features and flows with a strong emphasis on mobile-first design, intuitive navigation, trust-building elements, and frictionless checkout experiences
- Deliver high-fidelity UI and visual design with exceptional attention to detail, brand storytelling, typography, imagery systems, and conversion-oriented patterns tailored for Shopify themes
- Build, evolve, and maintain commerce design systems that ensure consistency, scalability, and efficient theming across Shopify stores and related marketing assets
- Prepare and deliver compelling client presentations, clearly communicating design rationale, Shopify-specific recommendations, UX decisions, and expected impact on sales metrics
- Collaborate closely with developers for clean handoff (including Figma-to-Shopify asset organization and Liquid considerations), perform thorough design QA, and ensure final implementations match the intended vision while maximizing Shopify’s native capabilities
- Manage your own schedules, priorities, and deliverables proactively across multiple retainer or project-based Shopify engagements in a fast-paced consulting environment
Requirements
- 4+ years of experience in digital product design, with significant senior-level responsibility on Shopify or eCommerce projects
- Hands-on expertise designing and optimizing Shopify stores — including full-site redesigns, theme customization, product pages, collection layouts, cart & checkout flows, and merchant admin experiences
- Strong portfolio showcasing commerce-focused work: high-converting Shopify user flows, mobile-first shopping journeys, design systems tailored for Shopify themes, and measurable impact on conversion rates or user engagement
- Expert proficiency in Figma (advanced components, variants, auto-layout, prototyping, and design system management)
- Deep understanding of Shopify’s platform — including its strengths, limitations, Liquid templating basics for design handoff, admin capabilities, app ecosystem, and eCommerce best practices (CRO, navigation, product presentation, accessibility, performance, and mobile UX)
- Excellent communication and presentation skills — able to articulate design decisions tied to business goals, conversion metrics, and Shopify-specific opportunities
Nice to Have
- Comfortable using AI tools (Claude, ChatGPT, Grok, etc.) to accelerate research, ideation, exploration, and workflow
- Experience with user testing platforms, motion design / micro-interactions for Shopify interfaces, and advanced interaction design
