AECOM is hiring a Senior CAD Engineer - Overhead Lines (OHL)

Responsibilities

  • Create precise 2D and 3D technical drawings for overhead line structures, alignment routes, and related components.
  • Develop wire clearance diagrams incorporating ground profiles, crossing analyses, legal clearance requirements, and conductor movement envelopes.
  • Produce detailed insulator assembly drawings, including string arrangements, hardware specifications, phase spacing, and structural connection details for systems between 132kV and 400kV.
  • Assist design engineers in generating PLS-CADD Plan & Profile outputs.
  • Generate construction-level drawings, General Arrangements, fabrication details, schematics, and as-built records.
  • Incorporate survey data, LiDAR or point cloud inputs, GIS layers, and PLS-CADD results into final CAD documentation.
  • Build and manage standardized drawing libraries, templates, and discipline-specific symbols for overhead line projects.
  • Ensure strict compliance with NG/ET/SR_135 Drawings Management Process for all work impacting National Grid transmission assets, including revision control and approvals via ECM/IDMS.
  • Compile drawing packages and support maintenance of the Site Drawing Index, Contract Drawing List, and Development Document Register.
  • Participate in project development by evaluating existing site drawings for reuse potential, reviewing master drawings in ECM/IDMS, and confirming data accuracy and consistency prior to project initiation.
  • Support project delivery by verifying that all updated or new drawings meet NG/ET/SR_135 and NG/ET/SR_188 standards, participating in drawing reviews and commissioning sessions.
  • Deliver technical expertise for key projects by translating engineering calculations into accurate drawings using PLS-CADD outputs, and supporting tasks such as route optimization, clash detection, access planning, and constructability assessments.
