About the Role
Design, build, and maintain scalable backend services that support subscription management and payment processing across global markets.
Responsibilities
- Develop and optimize backend systems handling subscription lifecycle operations
- Collaborate with product and design teams to deliver reliable user experiences
- Ensure high availability and performance of critical payment infrastructure
- Work with data stores and distributed systems to manage user entitlements
- Support international expansion through localization of billing systems
- Diagnose and resolve production issues in a timely manner
- Contribute to technical documentation and system architecture decisions
- Implement monitoring and alerting for backend services
- Participate in code reviews and promote engineering best practices
- Drive improvements in system observability and operational resilience
- Work closely with frontend teams to integrate backend capabilities
- Support compliance with financial and data privacy regulations
- Optimize APIs for scalability and low-latency responses
- Evaluate new technologies for potential integration into the stack
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to team knowledge sharing
- Use Java, Kotlin, or similar languages in service development
- Integrate with third-party payment providers and identity systems
- Help define roadmap priorities based on technical insights
- Ensure systems are secure and resistant to fraud
- Contribute to incident response and on-call rotations
- Analyze system metrics to identify performance bottlenecks
- Support A/B testing initiatives for subscription features
- Maintain backward compatibility during service evolution
- Work within agile frameworks using iterative development cycles
- Drive automation in testing and deployment pipelines
Nice to Have
- Experience with large-scale subscription platforms
- Background in fintech or e-commerce domains
- Hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform
- Knowledge of gRPC and protocol buffers
- Familiarity with Kafka or similar message queues
