Responsibilities
- Construct and sustain the authoritative business data model on Iceberg, ensuring governed data entities and their relationships remain consistent for project performance reporting despite changes in source systems.
- Create refined data marts tailored to business reporting needs.
- Model hierarchical structures of assemblies and sub-assemblies from the Neptune graph database to support bill of materials and project reporting.
- Organize dbt projects with clear layering into staging, intermediate, and marts, using ref(), macros, and packages to minimize redundancy.
- Implement a comprehensive data quality framework including schema validation, freshness checks, dbt-expectations rules, and observability via dbt-elementary to enforce a unified quality standard.
- Manage schema evolution carefully to avoid disruptions, using table versioning, data contracts, and case-specific handling of structural changes.
- Integrate dbt models into CI/CD workflows with optimized builds, code linting, and pull request reviews, while supporting orchestration through Airflow and Cosmo.
- Partner with data analysts on data mart design and with data engineers on upstream data architecture, including facilitating knowledge transfer to client teams.
