Responsibilities
- Conduct psychoeducational assessments of students and participate in IEP meetings to explain results and suggest recommendations.
- Create written reports that analyze, interpret, and summarize assessment findings, observations, and input from school staff, students, and parents.
- Use student assessment data to help teaching teams identify suitable interventions and programs.
- Meet with parents and teachers to address learning, behavioral, family, and social concerns.
- Establish and maintain clear communication and cooperative relationships with students, staff, parents, and external agencies.
- Work with special education teams to support IEP development, compliance, and program creation and implementation.
- Apply assessment methods to help school teams identify strengths and needs, develop effective interventions and programs, and track progress within a Multi-tiered System of Support.
- Recommend evidence-based interventions, curricula, and instructional strategies for individual students, groups, or the entire school.
- Help IEP teams choose data collection methods to implement and evaluate services that support academic, social, emotional, and behavioral skill development.
- Design, implement, and evaluate school-wide SEL practices that foster resilience, positive behavior, socialization, adaptive skills, and mental and behavioral health.
- Provide individual and group counseling, including brief, short-term, and long-term services.
- Conduct risk and threat assessments, counsel victims in crisis, facilitate re-entry meetings for students returning from hospitalization, and create safety plans as needed.
- Perform functional behavior assessments, develop behavior intervention plans, and collaborate with staff to implement and monitor these plans.
- Work with others to develop and implement practices that create and maintain safe, effective, and supportive learning environments for students and staff.
- Participate in developing, monitoring, and evaluating school-wide Multi-tiered Systems of Support (MTSS).
- Develop, coordinate, and provide in-service training for staff, parents, and district personnel.
- Collaborate to promote preventive and responsive services that enhance learning, mental and behavioral health, and psychological and physical safety.
- Assist school leadership in implementing effective crisis prevention, protection, mitigation, response, and recovery.
- Work with others to design, implement, and evaluate services that are culturally and contextually responsive.
- Facilitate family-school partnerships and interactions with community agencies to improve academic and social-behavioral outcomes for students.
- Provide parent education and training to build family capacity for supporting student learning and social-emotional wellness.
- Recognize that equitable practices for diverse student populations, respect for diversity in development and learning, and advocacy for social justice are foundational to effective service delivery.
- Help school leadership evaluate systems and programs through an equity lens to eliminate disproportionality in special education.
- Evaluate and apply current research to guide service delivery and establish best practices.
- Use various techniques and technology resources for data collection, measurement, and analysis to support evidence-based practices.
