What You'll Do
Oversee the financial health of 5–8 Michigan schools by serving as their strategic finance advisor. Guide school leaders and boards in making sound financial and operational decisions, aligning budgets and forecasts with institutional goals and equity-focused principles. Develop detailed financial models and long-term planning frameworks to support sustainable growth and mission alignment.
Present financial strategies and insights during board and finance committee meetings, translating complex data into clear, actionable recommendations. Proactively identify financial challenges and work collaboratively to resolve them, either directly or by coordinating with internal specialists. Support the development of junior finance staff by providing guidance on school-specific financial processes.
Contribute to the continuous improvement of finance products and practices by participating in internal research and innovation initiatives, helping to refine tools and methodologies used across the organization.
Requirements
- Proven experience managing finance functions in Michigan public or charter schools, ideally as part of a school leadership team
- Strong grasp of accounting principles, including experience interpreting financial reports and using accounting software
- Intermediate proficiency in Excel, including use of formulas such as VLOOKUP and SUMIFS
- Strong analytical, strategic, and problem-solving abilities
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain financial concepts clearly to diverse audiences
- Experience advising or collaborating with senior school leaders
- Effective time management and organizational skills
- Familiarity with Google Suite and other digital collaboration tools
- Typically 10–15 years of professional or post-secondary experience
