About the Role
The Satellite Policy Associate will help shape and execute policy strategies related to spectrum use, orbital operations, and regulatory compliance for a low Earth orbit satellite constellation. The role involves coordination with international regulators, government entities, and internal teams to ensure alignment with technical and operational goals.
Responsibilities
- Support regulatory filings for spectrum and orbital rights
- Engage with international telecommunications authorities
- Monitor global policy developments affecting satellite operations
- Assist in preparing submissions to regulatory bodies
- Coordinate with technical teams on compliance documentation
- Track licensing requirements across jurisdictions
- Draft policy analyses and briefing materials
- Participate in negotiations with government agencies
- Maintain awareness of international space law developments
- Support coordination with intergovernmental organizations
- Help manage relationships with national regulatory agencies
- Analyze spectrum interference and coordination scenarios
- Prepare responses to regulatory inquiries
- Contribute to long-term regulatory strategy
- Ensure adherence to international treaty obligations
- Support cross-border operational approvals
- Evaluate policy implications of technical changes
- Assist in developing positions for international forums
- Track compliance with orbital debris mitigation standards
- Work with legal and engineering teams on regulatory interpretations
- Maintain regulatory databases and timelines
- Support policy aspects of market entry strategies
- Contribute to internal training on regulatory topics
- Prepare executive summaries on policy developments
- Assist in crisis response planning for regulatory issues
Nice to Have
- Advanced degree in law, public policy, or engineering
- Direct experience in satellite regulatory affairs
- Working knowledge of ITU-R processes
- Experience in spectrum coordination
- Familiarity with orbital slot acquisition
- Background in telecommunications law
- Experience with FCC or other national regulator filings
- Knowledge of space situational awareness policies
- Understanding of national security implications of satellite operations
- Experience in cross-border regulatory negotiations
