About the Role
A technical researcher applying machine learning and computational biology to assess risk-related capabilities of advanced biological models, working at the intersection of AI, bioscience, and security to guide research direction and inform government and partner organizations.
Responsibilities
- Assess risk-related functionalities of specialized biological models by converting complex, ambiguous questions into testable research hypotheses and structured experiments.
- Integrate computational predictions with experimental data using published studies, biological databases, expert input, and wet-lab collaborations to determine real-world relevance of in-silico results.
- Lead investigations into the practicality and performance of technical controls for biological models, such as access restrictions, model modifications, monitoring systems, detection methods, and capability constraints.
- Monitor advancements in biological AI to identify emerging models, techniques, or capabilities that warrant evaluation, helping to adapt the team’s research priorities over time.
- Prepare clear, evidence-based technical reports, briefings, and recommendations for senior stakeholders in government and partner organizations, translating complex findings into actionable insights.
- Collaborate with scientists, engineers, biosecurity specialists, policy experts, AI safety researchers, and external partners to ensure evaluations are scientifically robust and aligned with policy needs.

- Candidates must be available to work with the team for at least 9 days per fortnight.
- Applicants should be prepared to work from the London office for a minimum of three days per week.
