Vaughan Regional Medical Center, a ScionHealth facility, is hiring a Registered Nurse. In this role, you will provide and coordinate direct patient care through the nursing process of Assessment, Planning, Intervention, and Evaluation. You will develop nursing care plans in partnership with patients, families, and the interdisciplinary team, communicating changes in condition and participating in discharge planning.
What You'll Do
- Maintain the standard of nursing care and implement hospital and departmental policies.
- Direct, supervise, provide, and evaluate nursing care for patients.
- Assign or delegate tasks based on patient needs, potential for harm, complexity, and staff scope of practice.
- Complete documentation of patient admission assessments, reassessments, care plans, and pertinent information.
- Perform assessments on admission and per policy, making referrals to other disciplines.
- Develop and update nursing care plans, coordinating with the patient, family, and care team.
- Assess and reassess pain, utilizing appropriate management techniques and educating patients and families.
- Revise the plan of care based on patient response and evaluate its effectiveness daily.
- Perform age-specific patient care per standard of care.
- Receive and accurately transcribe physician orders.
- Administer medications utilizing the five rights of medication administration.
- Formulate and evaluate a teaching plan based on identified learning needs.
- Assist physicians with examinations, treatments, and special procedures within your scope of practice.
- Treat patients and families with respect, addressing psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, and spiritual needs.
- Interpret patient data to identify age-specific needs and provide appropriate care.
- Perform all patient care in an environment that optimizes safety and reduces errors.
- Initiate or assist with emergency measures for adverse patient developments.
- Answer calls, anticipate patient needs, and make rounds.
- Consult with other departments for an interdisciplinary approach to patient needs.
- Provide end-of-shift report, ensure narcotic counts, complete documentation, and sign off orders.
- Communicate clearly with management, co-workers, and physicians.
- Identify psychosocial needs and communicate with Social Service/Discharge Planner.
- Participate in the orientation and training of new personnel.
- Manage and operate equipment safely and correctly.
What We're Looking For
- Graduation from an accredited Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Associate Degree in Nursing, or Nursing Diploma program.
- Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse.
- BCLS certification.
- Knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on patient age and clinical condition.
- Basic computer knowledge.
- Able to organize tasks, develop action plans, set priorities, and function under stressful situations.
- Ability to maintain a good working relationship within and across departments.
- Must read, write, and speak fluent English.
- Must have good and regular attendance.
Nice to Have
- Minimum six months of Medical/Surgical experience in an acute care setting.
- ACLS certification.
