About the Role
The reading specialist will design and implement individualized and small-group reading programs, assess student progress, and collaborate with teachers and families to improve literacy outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Deliver structured literacy instruction aligned with research-based methodologies
- Conduct diagnostic assessments to identify student reading challenges
- Develop and adjust intervention plans based on student performance data
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to support curriculum integration
- Maintain accurate records of student progress and assessment results
- Provide professional development support to teaching staff on literacy strategies
- Engage families in literacy initiatives and progress updates
- Monitor the effectiveness of reading programs and recommend improvements
- Support students with diverse learning needs, including dyslexia and language delays
- Implement multisensory teaching techniques to enhance reading acquisition
- Participate in school-wide literacy planning and goal setting
- Use data to inform instructional decisions and group placements
- Model effective reading instruction during co-teaching opportunities
- Stay current with developments in reading science and pedagogy
- Coordinate with special education teams when appropriate
- Advocate for evidence-based literacy practices across grade levels
- Support the selection and implementation of literacy materials
- Facilitate small group instruction for targeted skill development
- Promote a positive and inclusive learning environment
- Contribute to the development of school literacy policies
Nice to Have
- Master's degree in literacy, reading, or special education
- Certification in Orton-Gillingham or a similar methodology
- Experience with Response to Intervention (RTI) or Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS)
- Training in dyslexia screening and intervention
- Bilingual capabilities in English and Spanish
