Responsibilities
- Lead the development and structure of the production software pipeline, covering data ingestion, aggregation, database storage, and batch processing workflows.
- Supervise a team of experienced software engineers supporting live cyber missions by assigning tasks, reviewing code, upholding technical standards, and providing guidance.
- Implement consistent software engineering practices including version control, continuous integration and deployment, testing protocols, and documentation rigor.
- Create and assess database and storage designs tailored to both operational field systems and secure research environments.
- Work with technical leadership to convert research outcomes and algorithmic improvements into scalable pipeline components.
- Analyze Python-based pipeline efficiency on field-deployable hardware, identify performance constraints, and oversee migration of stable modules to Rust or C for edge computing.
- Oversee virtual machine configurations for operational systems and simulation platforms, ensuring research environments remain stable during development cycles.
- Specify and enforce standardized data stream interfaces connecting ingestion, storage, and downstream processing systems.
- Assess new technologies such as DuckDB/Parquet, Polars, and message queuing systems against project needs and advise technical leadership on adoption.
- Maintain repository organization, branching models, and release procedures within the GitLab environment.
- Develop comprehensive technical documentation including architectural decisions, interface definitions, and system deployment instructions.
- Contribute to technical evaluations and prepare written materials for sponsor deliverables under the direction of the program's technical lead.
