About the Role

UFG Insurance is hiring a Senior Production Underwriter to attract and underwrite middle market business in our Southwest Region. You will execute underwriting strategy to achieve profit and premium plans, handle a renewal book, mentor team members, and represent UFG in the marketplace.

What You'll Do

  • Profitably underwrite complex new and renewal business through risk selection, pricing, contractual integrity, and account management.
  • Demonstrate critical thinking in assessing risk and identifying exposures and controls.
  • Price risk commensurate with exposures and controls, setting appropriate terms and conditions for a profitable portfolio.
  • Document assigned files with your underwriting thought process.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert to assist team members with complex risks.
  • Achieve profit and premium plans for prescribed business unit strategies through effective portfolio management.
  • Achieve production goals within your assigned territory.
  • Conduct marketing, including in-person and virtual sales calls with agencies and insureds.
  • Prospect and develop a strong pipeline of new business opportunities.
  • Develop and maintain successful relationships with producers and agencies.
  • Represent UFG in the marketplace, articulating the company’s capabilities.
  • Collaborate with internal partners like Business Unit Underwriting, Sales, Risk Control, Legal, and Claims.
  • Complete agency reviews, capturing market opportunities and providing feedback.
  • Mentor and train team members, acting as a resource to answer questions and resolve escalated issues.
  • Represent the field underwriter perspective in key corporate initiatives and projects.
  • Support and participate in the deployment of technical underwriting training and content.

What We're Looking For

  • A valid driver’s license and an acceptable motor vehicle record.

Nice to Have

  • A four-year college degree.
  • Completion of, or working towards, AU, CIC, and/or CPCU designations.
  • 5+ years of commercial lines underwriting experience.
