Responsibilities
- Deliver comprehensive process engineering support.
- Direct front-end engineering design studies.
- Create process designs including process flow diagrams, piping and instrumentation diagrams, and heat and mass balances.
- Produce design basis documents, process descriptions, equipment specifications, and data sheets.
- Design and specify equipment, instrumentation, and safety systems.
- Assess vendor and supplier technical proposals and offer recommendations.
- Define and oversee process control strategies and their implementation.
- Lead design reviews and implement enhancements.
- Organize and participate in hazard and operability studies and other safety assessments.
- Ensure the quality and consistency of process designs.
- Assist with plant startup, including on-site performance testing and troubleshooting.
- Conduct root cause failure analyses and lead investigations.
- Coordinate with multiple engineering disciplines to produce piping isometrics, single-line diagrams, plot plans, equipment arrangement diagrams, utility requirements, process interfaces, block input/output diagrams, functional logic tables, and other technical documents such as startup procedures, test plans, operation manuals, and training materials.
- Address functional issues related to plant reliability, operability, and maintenance.
- Engage in control system design, staging, software acceptance testing, and field validation.
- Participate in constructability reviews, pre-startup safety reviews, and operational readiness inspections.
- Help ensure compliance with local safety regulations.
- Develop cost estimates for project bidding at AACE Class 3 or higher.
- Conduct economic analyses to minimize total installed costs.
- Identify and mitigate technical, execution, and operational risks.
- Define work scopes and allocate responsibilities.
- Support proposal writing and creation of other technical documents.
- Serve as a technical liaison to customers or engineering, procurement, and construction contractors.
- Contribute to lessons learned documentation.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in chemical or mechanical engineering and at least five years of relevant experience in the gas and process industry.
- Advanced proficiency in process simulation software such as Aspen HYSYS or ChemCAD.
- Extensive experience with cryogenic pumps, heat exchangers, turbomachinery, air separation systems, gas processing plants, liquefaction plants, tank farms, and bulk distribution facilities.
- Ability to develop a balanced, multi-disciplinary understanding of process engineering, process systems, and process safety.
- Effective communication skills and willingness to seek technical expertise when needed.
- Strong analytical and organizational abilities.
- Capability to influence and collaborate with cross-functional team members.
- Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects.
