Responsibilities
- Establish and maintain the RF payload architecture for low Earth orbit satellites enabling direct-to-device connectivity, covering phased-array antennas, RF front-end design, frequency allocation, and waveforms compliant with cellular standards.
- Lead the development and refinement of phased-array antenna systems, including electronic beam steering, beamforming techniques, scan capabilities, EIRP and G/T performance, ground coverage efficiency, and seamless handover between beams.
- Take ownership of the full RF communications link design from space to ground, including link budgeting, modulation and coding strategies, Doppler shift compensation, interference modeling, and adherence to regulatory requirements.
- Define and oversee RF payload integration with spacecraft subsystems, managing interfaces for power, thermal control, mechanical structure, electromagnetic compatibility, data transfer, and command telemetry systems.
- Lead integration and testing activities at the payload level, including functional validation, RF performance assessment, over-the-air evaluation of phased arrays, and environmental testing for launch and orbital conditions.
- Partner with cellular radio access and core network teams to ensure interoperability with 3GPP standards, proper protocol handling over satellite links, and integration with terrestrial mobile networks.
- Develop and manage technical requirements, system specifications, and interface control documentation; conduct trade studies and lead key design reviews such as SRR, PDR, and CDR.
- Provide technical direction to cross-functional engineering teams in RF, antenna design, digital systems, baseband processing, and software, while managing external vendors delivering critical RF and antenna hardware.
- Support satellite mission operations and constellation rollout, including payload activation, in-orbit testing, performance tracking, and resolution of RF or communications issues.

- This position supports remote work but prefers candidates based in Mountain View, CA, with a requirement to be onsite three days per week.
