Neurophos is hiring a Principal Optomechanical Design Engineer

Responsibilities

  • Lead the full lifecycle design of opto-mechanical systems for optical processing units, covering free-space optics, fiber-linked components, and photonic integrated circuit packaging.
  • Conduct tolerance analyses using root sum square and Monte Carlo methods to establish error budgets for wavefront fidelity, beam pointing, optical efficiency, and fiber coupling performance.
  • Create high-precision mechanical structures that support beam conditioning, collimation, polarization control, and alignment of optical components in free-space setups.
  • Develop packaging methodologies for single-mode and polarization-preserving fiber systems, incorporating both active and passive alignment techniques.
  • Implement design for manufacturing and design for assembly principles to enable scalable, repeatable, and cost-efficient production of optical subsystems.
  • Oversee environmental validation of opto-mechanical systems, including testing for vibration, thermal cycling, mechanical shock, and long-term operational stability.
  • Determine optimal materials for dimensional and thermal stability, such as Invar, titanium, and low-coefficient-of-thermal-expansion materials, and define thermal control strategies.
  • Generate and maintain CAD models, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing documentation, and engineering specifications; collaborate with suppliers and contract manufacturers to qualify components.
  • Serve as the primary technical authority on opto-mechanical design across the organization, ensuring mechanical requirements are prioritized in all photonic and optical subsystems.
  • Participate in system-level design reviews, lead opto-mechanical sections of requirements documentation, and report progress and risks to both technical and executive stakeholders.
