AECOM is hiring a Principal Mechanical Engineer, Water Sector

About the Role

This role leads mechanical engineering efforts across water and wastewater projects, driving design excellence, mentoring teams, and ensuring technical accuracy in system planning and implementation.

Responsibilities

  • Lead mechanical design for water treatment and pumping facilities
  • Oversee engineering calculations and system specifications
  • Ensure compliance with industry codes and safety standards
  • Collaborate with civil, electrical, and structural engineers
  • Manage technical aspects of project delivery
  • Review design documentation for accuracy and completeness
  • Support procurement and construction phases
  • Mentor junior engineering staff
  • Develop innovative solutions for water conveyance systems
  • Coordinate with clients and regulatory agencies
  • Prepare technical reports and design criteria
  • Conduct feasibility studies for water infrastructure
  • Lead value engineering and risk assessment efforts
  • Ensure integration of mechanical systems with overall project goals
  • Guide selection of pumps, valves, and associated equipment
  • Support sustainable design practices and energy efficiency
  • Troubleshoot mechanical system challenges during construction
  • Participate in project planning and scheduling
  • Review contractor submittals and shop drawings
  • Maintain quality control throughout project lifecycle

Nice to Have

  • Master's degree in engineering or related discipline
  • Experience with large-scale water treatment plants
  • Project experience in municipal or industrial sectors
  • Familiarity with SCADA systems
  • Knowledge of renewable energy integration
  • Experience with international design standards
  • Certified Engineering Manager (CEM) credential
  • Leadership in professional engineering organizations
  • Published work in engineering journals
  • Experience with digital twin or simulation modeling
