As a Principal Hardware Engineer, you will lead the design, development, and improvement of control centre hardware products, tools, and processes for our critical railway signalling systems, ensuring delivery on time and to budget.
What You'll Do
- Design, develop, and implement digital hardware and firmware for railway signalling control systems at the component level and above.
- Prepare hardware and firmware development plans.
- Interface with the software team, specifying hardware/software interface requirements.
- Debug and troubleshoot hardware and firmware issues.
- Create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation.
- Lead product obsolescence management activities, including board re-designs and firmware migration support.
- Support and document industrial PC configurations.
- Migrate NPI documentation into a new PLM tool.
- Support product approval, software integration, and project delivery.
- Work closely with teams across the business, including software, supply chain, and component engineering.
- Contribute to improving requirements capture and design methodology.
What We're Looking For
- Master's Degree in Electronics Engineering or Computer Science, or a Bachelor of Science in Electronics Engineering with significant domain experience.
Nice to Have
- Experience or understanding of digital hardware and firmware, FPGAs, and CPLDs.
- Experience or understanding of RTOS, housekeeping with Intel processors, and carrier boards for SoM/CoM.
- Experience or understanding of bus translation (e.g., PCIe to local buses), serial/parallel buses, and communication protocols (UART, USB, SPI, I2C).
- Experience working to formal process, creating requirements/test specifications, and developing plans.
- Experience with design and code reviews, configuration/version control, and design analysis (timing diagrams).
- Knowledge of memory technologies, Spartan and Virtex FPGA families, reading schematics/datasheets, BSPs, and PCB design.
- Familiarity with DFM/DFT, setting up test environments, configuring development tools, V&V, hardware characterization, and obsolescence management.
