Responsibilities
- Guide technical strategy for cloud-native platforms across multiple engineering units and business divisions.
- Establish architectural frameworks and standards for large-scale implementation and operation of Kubernetes, distributed systems, and hyperscaler infrastructure.
- Take ownership of the most complex and undefined technical challenges in the platform space, including multi-cloud configurations, control-plane design, workload separation, identity and trust systems, and system reliability across hundreds of clusters and numerous product workloads.
- Collaborate with senior technical leaders, including engineering fellows and principal engineers, to ensure consistent architectural choices and widespread adoption of best practices throughout the platform environment.
- Detect and address major technical risks in high-visibility initiatives reported to executive leadership.
- Evaluate and decide on key trade-offs between managed and self-managed infrastructure, substrate flexibility, and multi-hyperscaler deployment strategies.
- Directly design and develop foundational platform components such as control planes, operators, infrastructure abstractions, and base systems used by other engineering teams.
- Provide technical mentorship to staff and principal engineers, helping develop future technical leaders within the organization.
