Responsibilities
- Collaborate with core development teams to influence feature design, anticipate technical challenges, and deliver forward-thinking solutions that enhance gameplay systems, providing strategic forecasts for research and development planning.
- Define and maintain technical standards for character rigging, animation workflows, and dynamic elements such as cloth, hair, and physics within Unreal Engine 5, ensuring visual excellence through prototyping and experimentation.
- Design and enhance an efficient, scalable pipeline for character assets moving from digital content creation tools into Unreal Engine, supporting high-quality integration across platforms.
- Build automated tools and systems that streamline character content creation, improving productivity and enabling artists across disciplines and locations to work more effectively.
- Set performance targets and technical constraints for character systems, balancing graphical quality with runtime efficiency in a live-service multiplayer context, and collaborate with engineers to ensure scalability across hardware platforms.
- Lead, manage, and mentor a team of technical artists, cultivating advanced technical abilities and promoting collaborative problem-solving practices.
- Drive adoption of best practices in character technical art across studios in the US and Spain, ensuring consistency and innovation.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and tools relevant to character animation and implement those that advance production capabilities.
- Ensure compatibility and optimization of character assets across multiple gaming platforms, including console and PC.
- Champion cross-disciplinary collaboration between art, animation, and engineering teams to achieve cohesive, high-performance character systems.
- Own the end-to-end quality of character technical pipelines, from modeling through runtime behavior.
- Troubleshoot complex technical issues in rigging, deformation, and real-time simulation within the engine.
- Develop documentation and knowledge-sharing systems to institutionalize technical standards and workflows.
- Support the integration of motion capture data into character animation systems with high fidelity and efficiency.
- Advocate for artist-friendly tools that reduce technical barriers and empower creative iteration.
