Responsibilities

  • Monitor and analyse policy developments across relevant Commonwealth and State portfolios (e.g., employment, NDIS, health, veterans, aged care) and assess implications for our services, clients and operations.
  • Undertake structured research and analysis (qualitative and quantitative), including literature reviews, consultation input, and synthesis of internal and external data sources.
  • Prepare high-quality written products such as briefs, submissions, discussion papers, options papers, presentations and stakeholder updates.
  • Support program and service design by translating policy intent into operational considerations, risks, dependencies and implementation steps.
  • Contribute to evaluation and continuous improvement activities, including defining outcomes/indicators and summarising findings for decision-makers.
  • Collaborate with internal subject matter experts, operations teams and external partners to test assumptions and validate evidence.
  • Maintain clear document management practices, version control and records to support governance and audit requirements.

Requirements

  • Strong analytical, critical thinking and research skills, with the ability to move from detail to clear insights and recommendations.
  • Excellent written communication, including the ability to write for different audiences and produce concise, well-structured briefs under time pressure.
  • Well-developed verbal communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Understanding of Australia’s public policy environment, including how policy is developed and implemented across government.
  • Experience working on policy, research, program design, evaluation, strategy or related areas (government, consulting, not-for-profit or industry experience welcomed).
  • Tertiary qualifications in public policy, economics, social sciences, health, law or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).
  • High attention to detail, sound judgement, and the ability to manage competing priorities.

Nice to Have

  • Knowledge of one or more of: employment services, NDIS, health policy, veterans’ services, aged care, or related social services policy settings.
  • Experience drafting submissions, consultation responses, business cases or similar formal written products.
  • Confidence working with data (e.g., Excel, Power BI, basic statistical analysis) and translating results into plain-English insights.
  • Understanding of service delivery environments and the practicalities of implementation.
