Responsibilities
- Act as the primary liaison between production teams and technology departments
- Support one or multiple productions based on project complexity
- Maintain the stability and integrity of each show's technical infrastructure
- Lead and guide Associate Technical Directors assigned to the production
- Lead Pipeline Technical Directors on show when applicable
- Lead production technology meetings or equivalent coordination sessions at the site level
- Manage daily pipeline operations for assigned shows
- Onboard and mentor new Associate Technical Directors when a Pipeline TD is unavailable
- Enhance pipeline capabilities through expertise in relevant tools, methods, and workflows
- Work closely with creative leads and supervisors to develop technical strategies for complex production challenges
- Break down pipeline and tool development initiatives into actionable tasks, assigning them to technical artists or completing them directly
- Oversee the design and implementation of show-specific pipeline systems, guiding architectural decisions and methodologies
- Manage pipeline responsibilities up to geometry delivery to the renderer; coordinate with Rendering Supervisor where applicable
- Ensure tools developed during production are scalable, reliable, and maintainable
- Collaborate with CG leadership, site management, and research teams to meet unique show pipeline requirements
- Facilitate clear communication between supervisors, leads, pipeline, R&D, and technical teams, ensuring knowledge transfer across productions
- Perform code reviews on tools created by Pipeline Technical Directors
- Provide ongoing mentorship and skill development for junior technical staff
- Evaluate artist-submitted requests for new tools and features
- Advise site leadership on actionable improvements to enhance quality, efficiency, and workflow effectiveness
- Coordinate the transition of newly developed tools and pipeline enhancements to Product Development or Operational Labs post-production
