Responsibilities
- Support the pharmacist in serving patients and maintaining the pharmacy area
- Sanitize surfaces and equipment, and set up the pharmacy before opening
- Welcome customers and respond to their inquiries
- Accept prescriptions and verify their authenticity
- Enter prescriptions into the system and confirm all details are complete and correct
- Address problems as they occur, such as denied insurance claims
- Choose the correct medication and measure doses for prescription fulfillment
- Organize, restock, label medications, and track inventory levels
- Perform assigned clerical duties, including record keeping
- Adhere to all security protocols, quality standards, and related activities
- Keep current HIPAA, HITECH, and FWA certifications
- Help the pharmacist with clinical and non-clinical tasks; properly document and report quality concerns
- Package orders according to established policies and procedures
- Coordinate with patients on medication delivery location and estimated time
- Prepare and arrange medication shipment via courier or delivery service
- Contact insurance companies to secure payment for prescription claims
- Handle incoming calls for new prescriptions and refills, make outgoing follow-up calls, and triage or escalate as necessary
