Responsibilities
- Create and post journal entries for regular payroll, bonuses, commissions, severance, and multi-subsidiary reviews.
- Apply knowledge of payroll tax compliance including federal, state, and local withholding and unemployment taxes, with understanding of FICA and state tax mechanisms.
- Handle benefits-related payroll accounting such as 401(k), disability, life insurance, and health benefits journal entries and reconciliations.
- Perform daily bookkeeping for payroll and maintain employee records.
- Understand GAAP principles related to payroll, including accrued PTO, bonus accruals, payroll tax accruals, and distinguishing reversing from non-reversing entries.
- Reconcile payroll-related balance sheet accounts to the general ledger each close cycle.
- Manage multi-subsidiary or multi-entity accrual allocations, such as commission or bonus accruals split across subsidiaries and LLC allocations.
- Independently prepare recurring journal entries from a checklist or template and route them through a prepare-review-post workflow.
- Handle contractor-related accruals by verifying new contractors, checking amounts, and reclassifying entries to correct periods.
- Review open purchase orders, contractor bill approvals, vendor reconciliations, and expense reports.
- Prepare clean supporting documentation, variance analysis, and transaction schedules for internal and external auditors during year-end audits.
