Responsibilities
- Conduct field surveys to identify paleontological resources in project areas
- Monitor construction activities for accidental discovery of fossils
- Document fossil finds using standardized scientific methods
- Collect and preserve fossil specimens according to regulatory protocols
- Prepare reports summarizing field findings and recommendations
- Collaborate with project teams to minimize impacts on fossil resources
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local paleontological regulations
- Provide input on project planning to avoid sensitive areas
- Respond to emergency calls for unexpected fossil discoveries
- Transport collected specimens to approved repositories
- Work with curators and regulatory agencies on specimen curation
- Maintain accurate field notes and documentation
- Participate in project meetings as a paleontology specialist
- Assist in developing paleontological resource management plans
- Review project designs for potential impacts on fossil-bearing strata
