Responsibilities
- Leads occupational health operations and supervises multiple staff members while delivering direct medical care within nursing scope and state regulations
- Provides administrative and clinical leadership to the site's occupational health department
- Designs and sustains an effective health care system tailored to the facility’s size and operational demands
- Supervises occupational health personnel and ensures consistent policy enforcement and high-quality nursing practices
- Enforces compliance with medical protocols, standing orders, and internal health guidelines
- Maintains accurate, legally compliant medical records to support continuous employee care
- Upholds confidentiality standards in line with HIPAA and employee privacy requirements
- Creates and manages a secure documentation system that protects personal health information
- Follows all applicable federal and state regulations, including OSHA and workers' compensation laws
- Keeps updated OSHA injury and illness logs as required
- Delivers empathetic and professional medical care to employees
- Conducts assessments, first aid, follow-up, rehabilitation, and case management for work-related and non-work-related health issues
- Offers first response care, minor treatment, counseling, referrals, and coordination for non-occupational health concerns
- Manages workers' compensation cases, including regulatory compliance, reporting to third-party administrators, and initiating internal case tracking
- Performs duties ethically and in alignment with legal and professional standards
- Schedules and conducts health evaluations for return-to-work, fitness-for-duty, and medical surveillance per protocol and physician direction
- Ensures proper administration and compliance of drug and alcohol testing programs by trained staff
- Provides on-site nursing care following medical directives and within state nursing practice boundaries
- Complies with all health management policies, medical orders, and clinical protocols as defined by scope of practice
Requirements
- Nursing education with an Associate Degree or Nursing Diploma
- Active RN license in the state of practice
- Certification in urine drug testing and breath alcohol collection methods
- Valid CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications
- Strong written and verbal communication abilities
