Sonar is hiring a Network Engineer (f/m/d)

Responsibilities

  • Play a key technical role in building and managing the global network infrastructure, ensuring high-performance, security, and reliability for all users and services across office and cloud environments.
  • Take ownership of critical components of the wide area network, local area network, software-defined WAN, and DNS systems, ensuring they meet the demands of a fast-scaling, globally distributed workforce.
  • Develop and sustain monitoring, alerting, and observability solutions that provide real-time insights into network performance, health, and security across all locations and cloud interconnections.
  • Collaborate closely with Product Engineering, Information Security, and Infrastructure teams to integrate robust and seamless network security controls and segmentation into core workflows.
  • Leverage and advocate for AI-powered tools to enhance operational efficiency, including in alert prioritization, anomaly identification, capacity forecasting, and configuration management.
  • Help establish and refine metrics for network reliability and performance, including service level indicators, objectives, error budgets, and dashboards accessible to stakeholders.
  • Architect and deploy network infrastructure solutions across all physical offices and cloud platforms, ensuring consistency and scalability.
  • Assess and introduce new technologies that boost reliability, throughput, and end-user experience while minimizing operational overhead.
  • Manage and evolve the Fortigate firewall ecosystem, including rule configurations, segmentation policies, VPN connections, and high-availability setups.
  • Ensure firewall policies balance operational needs and performance with strong security, in alignment with the Information Security team.
  • Lead the design, automation, and operational resilience of core network services such as DNS, DHCP, NTP, and IP address management.
  • Apply policy-as-code principles and automation to ensure configuration changes are reviewed, tested, and traceable before deployment.
  • Build and maintain monitoring dashboards, alerting logic, and diagnostic runbooks for network systems.
  • Continuously refine alerting mechanisms to reduce false positives, improve detection accuracy, and align with service level objectives for critical network components.
  • Use infrastructure-as-code and configuration management tools like Terraform and Ansible, along with scripting languages such as Python or Go, to provision and manage network devices and policies.
  • Manage network configurations as version-controlled software artifacts, enabling safe testing, deployment, and rollback.
  • Design and manage cloud networking across GCP, Azure, and AWS, including virtual networks, peering, transit gateways, private endpoints, and load balancing, as well as hybrid connections via site-to-site VPNs and dedicated links.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation to support network service availability and incident response.
  • Lead or contribute to post-mortem analyses, translating root causes into engineering improvements such as new alerts, automations, capacity planning, or documentation updates to reduce resolution time and recurrence.
  • Utilize AI tools, including LLM-based assistants and AIOps platforms, to speed up incident triage, detect anomalies, and support root cause analysis, while maintaining human oversight.
  • Identify and implement safe, effective uses of AI in network operations, such as predicting capacity needs or detecting configuration drift.
