About the Role

GitLab is looking for a Meter Services Technician I to join our field operations team. This entry-level role is responsible for the hands-on installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of over 302,000 water meters. You'll work with Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) systems, perform field investigations, and deliver exceptional customer service in a fast-paced environment with clear opportunities for professional growth.

What You'll Do

  • Install, maintain, and troubleshoot remote-read radio communication signals.
  • Perform installation and preventative maintenance on water meters, endpoints (radio transmitters), pipe fittings, valves, meter boxes, and lids.
  • Conduct water services field investigations in response to customer inquiries and inspect the condition of water meters and pipe fittings for installation, repair, or replacement.
  • Obtain and validate water meter readings, turn on/off water services, and lock water service for delinquent accounts.
  • Provide exceptional face-to-face customer service, answer questions, and take appropriate steps to meet customer needs.
  • Locate water assets (water service lines, water mains, water meters, and valves) using maps and Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
  • Inspect, operate, and maintain assigned City vehicles, equipment, tools, and machinery in a safe and appropriate manner.
  • Perform other duties as required.

What We're Looking For

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to pass a drug test and physical.
  • Able to obtain a TCEQ Class D Water Distribution license within one (1) year of hire.
  • Able to obtain a TCEQ Class C Water Distribution license within two (2) years of hire.

Nice to Have

  • Previous plumbing, mechanical, oil field, utility, or construction field work experience.
  • Knowledge and experience using a work order system.
  • Bilingual.
  • Basic computer skills.
