Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts (PPLM) is hiring a Medical Assistant- Grand Rapids

Responsibilities

  • Maintain patient records and enter data into electronic health record (EHR) systems.
  • Actively work toward patient access and demand goals.
  • Demonstrate commitment to PPMI’s In This Together Workplace Values and Service Standards.

  • Promote productivity, patient donations, outreach, and other business goals.
  • Perform all duties in compliance with applicable laws, PPMI policies, and insurance guidelines.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
  • Be fully trained and signed off in either Front or Back duties for all services at the work location.
  • Greet patients and visitors in person or by phone and schedule appointments; refer calls to other providers for services outside PPMI scope.
  • Assist patients with check-in and paperwork completion.
  • Obtain patient insurance information, including verifying insurance and obtaining health plan authorization.
  • Assess patients’ financial resources, including eligibility for available programs and insurances.
  • Collect all fees in accordance with PPMI cash handling policy and procedures.
  • Record financial and billing transactions in the practice management system.
  • Dispense medication and supplies to patients under the direction of a physician or clinician.
  • Perform basic diagnostic testing including finger poke, vital signs, urine pregnancy testing, urinalyses, hemoglobin, rapid HIV test, and blood draws; prepare lab specimens, requisitions, and tracking logs for transport.
  • Obtain patient vital signs including blood pressure, height, weight, hemoglobin, pulse, LMP, and patient needs assessment; administer injections.
  • Prepare patients for procedures and discuss pain management options; assist clinician or physician during exams or procedures.
  • May participate in aftercare services.
  • Provide basic factual, unbiased patient education on pregnancy management options, birth control methods, STIs, and other health care services; screen for coercion; refer to outside resources as needed.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • At least 2 years’ experience in a health care environment, preferably in a reproductive health setting.
  • Any equivalent combination of experience, education, and/or training approved by Human Resources.
  • Commitment to advancing race equity in one's work and interest in expanding knowledge about racial inequity in society.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively across differences and act on feedback related to identity and equity with openness to learn.
  • Commitment to Planned Parenthood's In This Together service ethos, workplace values, and service standards.

Nice to Have

  • Knowledge of medical records management systems is a plus.
