Responsibilities

Drive the design, development, and delivery of cloud-native, distributed systems
Lead a cross-functional team of engineers across various experience levels
Spend 40–50% of time coding using Java/Spring Boot or Python microservices
Advance CI/CD practices in partnership with DevOps/SRE teams
Strengthen operational capabilities and champion next-generation engineering tools such as AI-assisted development (GitHub Copilot, Cursor)
Mentor full-stack and quality engineers
Shape engineering culture and raise the overall bar of engineering excellence
Elevate backend architecture by developing high-quality services using Java/Spring Boot or Python microservices
Ensure reliability, performance, and scalability of services
Strengthen system design by leading architectural decisions across microservices, distributed systems, event-driven patterns, and cloud components
Influence frontend quality and alignment by providing guidance and review for React + TypeScript implementations
Diagnose complex production issues and drive optimizations that enhance stability and user experience
Accelerate engineering efficiency by championing AI-assisted development tools and building reusable frameworks and internal tooling
Guide engineering direction end-to-end, ensuring backend, frontend, integration, and data layers align with modern engineering standards
Uplift engineering talent by mentoring developers across various career levels in system design, performance, clean coding, and secure engineering practices
Raise the technical bar by establishing and enforcing consistent architectural patterns and engineering best practices across teams
Elevate product quality by defining and executing an end-to-end quality strategy across manual, automated, API, and regression testing
Expand automation coverage across UI (Selenium, Cypress, Playwright) and API layers
Enable faster and safer releases through expanded automation
Ensure predictable release quality by enforcing quality gates, reducing regression leakage, and improving test maturity
Empower QA engineers by guiding the design of robust test frameworks and validation strategies for dashboards, analytics, and data workflows
Guide the evolution of CI/CD pipelines to support backend, frontend, and automation
Influence containerization (Docker), orchestration (Kubernetes), and deployment strategies
Partner with DevOps/SRE to enhance logging, metrics, tracing, and platform stability
Lead implementation of security best practices (static analysis, dependency scanning, security gating)
Build a high-performing engineering organization by managing and developing engineers across multiple experience levels
Drive career growth through structured mentorship, performance feedback, and personalized development plans
Foster an engineering culture of excellence built on accountability, continuous learning, craftsmanship, and psychological safety
Drive cross-functional alignment with Product, Architecture, Security, and Program teams to ensure clear direction and strategic prioritization
Drive end-to-end delivery by owning roadmaps, sprint execution, and release outcomes with predictable velocity and quality
Bring visibility and transparency through tracking KPIs such as velocity, quality metrics, coverage, deployment frequency, and operational trends
Remove blockers early and mitigate risks proactively to ensure that teams stay aligned and execution remains friction-free

Requirements

12–15 years of strong software engineering experience
Must enjoy staying hands-on with code while also leading people and growing teams
Deep expertise in either Java + Spring Boot or Python microservices (FastAPI/Flask/Django)
Experience solving complex engineering problems in modern distributed systems
Experience in cloud-native environments, especially on AWS
Ability to design scalable, fault-tolerant microservices
Comfort reviewing and guiding frontend work (React + TypeScript)
Experience working closely with DevOps/SRE
Strong exposure to CI/CD pipelines, Docker, cloud deployments, and observability tools
Belief in a strong quality culture
Solid understanding of automation frameworks, API/UI testing, and quality governance practices
Experience leading cross-functional engineering teams across development and QA disciplines
Enjoy mentoring engineers at various career stages
Experience with Agile ways of working
Confidence in driving cross-team delivery, sprint execution, capacity planning, and release management
Ability to lead with technical depth while inspiring teams with clarity and vision
Open communication, effective mentoring, and ability to navigate complex situations with calm and clarity
Strong sense of ownership, driving outcomes with discipline and accountability
