About the Role
The Loan Accountant will be responsible for maintaining detailed records of loan transactions, reconciling accounts, and ensuring timely reporting. This role supports financial accuracy and regulatory compliance across lending operations.
Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate loan accounting records for all active loans
- Perform monthly reconciliation of loan portfolios
- Track principal and interest payments across multiple loan types
- Support month-end and year-end closing processes
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and regulatory standards
- Prepare journal entries related to loan activity
- Monitor loan delinquencies and report on status
- Assist in audits by providing necessary documentation
- Collaborate with loan servicing teams to resolve discrepancies
- Review loan documentation for accounting accuracy
- Update accounting systems with new loan origination data
- Calculate and record loan fees and amortization schedules
- Identify and correct accounting errors promptly
- Generate internal reports on loan performance metrics
- Support internal controls related to loan accounting
- Participate in process improvement initiatives
- Ensure data integrity between financial and loan systems
- Assist in the preparation of regulatory filings
- Maintain documentation for accounting policies and procedures
- Work cross-functionally with risk and compliance teams
- Track loan modifications and restructuring activity
- Provide support during system upgrades or implementations
- Respond to internal and external inquiries about loan accounts
- Stay current with changes in accounting standards
- Assist in training team members on accounting processes
