Vaughan Regional Medical Center / ScionHealth is hiring a Licensed Vocational Nurse to provide essential nursing care within your scope of licensure. You'll work under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse to deliver high-quality care that aligns with established nursing standards and hospital policies.
What You'll Do
- Under direct RN supervision, administer medication, perform treatments, and fulfill patient care responsibilities as prescribed.
- Consult with and keep the Registered Nurse informed of patient activities, symptoms, reactions, and changes in condition.
- Provide appropriate pain management techniques and educate patients and families on pain management.
- Administer medication following the five rights of medication administration within your scope of practice.
- Assist with patient rehabilitation and treatment according to the medical plan of care, updating and revising the plan under RN supervision.
- Assist physicians with examinations, treatments, and special procedures, performing services requiring technical and manual skills as directed by the RN.
- Treat patients and families with respect and dignity, identifying and addressing psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, and spiritual needs.
- Interact professionally with patients and families, involving them in the formation of the care plan.
- Identify psychosocial needs and communicate with Social Services/Discharge Planners regarding in-hospital and post-discharge needs.
- Interpret patient data to identify age-specific needs and provide appropriate care.
- Perform all patient care tasks in an environment that optimizes safety and reduces the likelihood of errors.
What We're Looking For
- Graduate of an accredited program for licensed vocational/practical nurses.
- Active Licensed Practical/Vocational Nurse License.
- BLS Certification required.
- Knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on patient age and clinical condition.
- Basic computer knowledge.
- Ability to organize tasks, develop action plans, set priorities, and function under stressful situations.
- Ability to maintain a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments.
- Must have good and regular attendance.
- Must read, write, and speak fluent English.
Nice to Have
- Minimum six months' prior experience in an acute care setting.
- Intravenous Therapy and Blood Certifications.
- ACLS (may be required in certain care areas).
