Responsibilities
- Set the benchmark for visual and technical excellence in shaders and materials across the project.
- Design and implement a shader and material workflow that balances high-quality visuals with real-time performance on all platforms.
- Lead research and development efforts into UE5 rendering technologies such as Lumen, Nanite, virtual texturing, and runtime shadow systems to improve material capabilities.
- Collaborate with the Art Director to ensure material design aligns with the game’s artistic vision and stylistic goals.
- Build and manage a library of modular, reusable, and efficient shaders and materials.
- Develop advanced materials for characters, environments, weapons, visual effects, and cinematics, coordinating with relevant teams for smooth integration.
- Work alongside lighting and rendering specialists to ensure surfaces appear realistic and consistent under dynamic lighting.
- Optimize material systems for memory usage, draw call efficiency, and runtime performance across multiple platforms.
- Lead, coach, and motivate a team of shader and material artists as well as technical artists.
- Evaluate team output, deliver constructive feedback, and enforce quality and consistency standards.
- Coordinate with external partners and outsourcing teams to ensure materials meet AAA production standards.
