Responsibilities
- Set and uphold the standard for visual and technical excellence in shaders and materials across the project.
- Design and implement a shader and material workflow that balances cutting-edge graphics with real-time performance on all target platforms.
- Lead research and experimentation with UE5 rendering technologies such as Lumen, Nanite, virtual texturing, and runtime virtual shadows to advance material capabilities.
- Collaborate with the Art Director to align material design with the game’s artistic vision and stylistic goals.
- Build and manage a scalable library of reusable, modular, and efficient shaders and materials.
- Develop advanced materials for characters, environments, weapons, visual effects, and cinematics, coordinating with relevant teams for smooth integration.
- Work closely with lighting and rendering specialists to ensure surfaces respond realistically under dynamic lighting.
- Optimize material systems for memory usage, draw call efficiency, and runtime performance across multiple platforms.
- Lead, coach, and motivate a team of shader and technical artists to achieve high-quality results.
- Conduct regular reviews, deliver constructive feedback, and enforce quality and consistency standards.
- Coordinate with external partners and outsourcing teams to ensure materials meet AAA production benchmarks.
