This position involves leading engineering efforts for critical platforms supporting revenue, risk, and settlements across the Customers business. The role offers flexibility with periodic office attendance in Exeter or London, alongside mentoring responsibilities and technical leadership across multiple product streams.
Responsibilities
- Overseeing daily engineering operations and technical execution for finance systems and analytics solutions
- Leading the architecture, implementation, and performance enhancement of cloud-native, data-heavy platforms
- Providing technical mentorship to engineering teams and promoting standards in quality, teamwork, and iterative progress
- Establishing reliable practices in continuous integration, delivery pipelines, automated testing, and deployment protocols
- Partnering with product managers, solution architects, and business stakeholders to deliver customer-centric technology products

The Opportunity
As a Lead Engineer within Finance Systems and Analytics, you’ll play a key role in leading the engineering capability behind critical platforms that underpin revenue, risk, and settlements across our Customers business. You’ll guide teams delivering high-impact systems, while supporting our journey towards An Electric Britain. Alongside a competitive salary and potential for an annual bonus, this is a flexible role with occasional travel to our #Exeter or #London offices. Who You Are
As a Lead Engineer (FS&A), you’re a confident technical leader who combines strong engineering expertise with the ability to guide teams and influence stakeholders. You bring a delivery mindset, enjoy solving complex problems, and take ownership of outcomes. To be shortlisted, you need to offer… - Proven experience leading small to medium-sized engineering teams in a fast-paced agile environment - Strong expertise in cloud architectures, particularly AWS, supported by relevant certifications - Hands-on experience with server-side programming using languages such as Python, Java, Kotlin, or NodeJS - Experience designing and building REST APIs and integrating third-party services - Commercial experience with React or React Native, alongside modern state management libraries - Strong experience with CI/CD tooling such as Jenkins, GitHub, or Terraform - Knowledge of event-driven, serverless, and loosely coupled architectures - Experience applying test-driven or behaviour-driven development practices - Proven experience working within the energy industry - Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders
