About the Role
The lead designer will shape the core design of an original game, lead a team of designers, and ensure a cohesive player experience from concept through release.
Responsibilities
- Define and maintain the game's overall design direction
- Lead and mentor a team of game designers
- Collaborate with art, programming, and narrative leads
- Develop and document core gameplay mechanics
- Create and refine level design frameworks
- Oversee the balance and progression systems
- Translate creative vision into actionable design tasks
- Manage design documentation and workflows
- Conduct playtests and analyze feedback
- Iterate on gameplay based on data and team input
- Ensure consistency across all design aspects
- Work closely with producers on scheduling and milestones
- Communicate design goals to cross-functional teams
- Support the integration of audio and visual elements into gameplay
- Maintain focus on player engagement and retention
Nice to Have
- Experience in post-launch game support and updates
- Background in multiplayer or online game design
- Knowledge of analytics tools for player behavior
- Experience with player economy systems
- Familiarity with accessibility best practices in gaming
