Responsibilities
- Guide and support the kitchen porter team to uphold exceptional levels of cleanliness, safety, and order in all back-of-house spaces.
- Serve as the primary contact for porters, assigning duties, tracking performance, and helping management ensure seamless daily operations.
- Model strong work ethic by actively participating in shifts alongside the porter team.
- Assign daily tasks and verify they are completed to established quality standards.
- Offer coaching, guidance, and hands-on training to both new and current porters.
- Conduct pre-shift meetings as needed and promote consistent, clear communication.
- Track individual porter performance and escalate issues to management when necessary.
- Follow all workplace health and safety regulations, including those related to hazardous substances and manual lifting, and attend mandatory training.
- Maintain excellent personal hygiene and adhere to grooming standards at all times.
- Help prepare and distribute equipment for events, stock inventories, and other operational needs.
- Oversee dishwashing and cleaning activities during service periods.
- Ensure all support areas—such as dish rooms, pot wash zones, waste storage, storage rooms, locker rooms, hallways, and event rooms—are clean, safe, and organized.
- Assist with stock rotation using FIFO principles, chemical safety checks, and proper storage of deliveries.
- Enforce proper waste separation and recycling procedures.
- Fill in for porters when staffing is low or during busy service times.
- Ensure porters follow COSHH protocols and use cleaning chemicals safely and correctly.
- Monitor the use of personal protective equipment and report any missing or damaged items.
- Verify compliance with hygiene, food safety, and fire safety requirements.
- Immediately report any hazards, incidents, or equipment malfunctions to supervisors.
- Ensure completion, sign-off, and proper filing of daily and weekly cleaning checklists.
