Scarpel Telecom is seeking a Junior Frontend Developer to join our Technology team. You’ll help expand and enhance the web application systems that power our online education services, focusing on implementing new front-end features, improving performance, and ensuring seamless integration with back-end systems.
What You'll Do
- Develop and maintain front-end components using HTML, SCSS, JavaScript, and templating frameworks such as Handlebars.
- Build responsive layouts and components using frameworks like Bootstrap.
- Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code that meets established development standards.
- Participate in technical design and architecture discussions, evaluating new tools and frameworks.
- Implement asynchronous functionality and dynamic data handling using AJAX and RESTful APIs.
- Collaborate with product owners and functional team leads to clarify requirements and document application features.
- Coordinate with QA teams to verify, test, and validate deliverables.
- Work closely with back-end developers to integrate UI components with relational database-driven APIs.
- Support accessibility standards and ensure compliance with WCAG guidelines.
- Contribute to code reviews, troubleshooting, and continuous UI/UX improvement.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
- 2+ years of professional front-end development experience.
- Proficiency with JavaScript, HTML, CSS, Handlebars, Bootstrap, and AJAX.
- Experience with React or a comparable modern front-end framework.
- Experience working with version control and repository management tools such as Git, GitHub, or Bitbucket.
- Familiarity with relational databases such as MySQL or PostgreSQL.
- Understanding of accessibility principles and standards (WCAG, ARIA).
- Experience using AI coding-assistance tools such as Copilot or Cursor.
- Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to follow and uphold established design and coding standards.
Nice to Have
- Experience with MongoDB or other NoSQL/document-based databases.
- Familiarity with learning management systems such as Canvas LMS, Moodle, Blackboard, or similar platforms.
- Knowledge of front-end analytics and tag management tools such as Google Tag Manager.
- Experience developing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using tools such as AWS CodePipeline, Jenkins, or similar automation platforms.
- Experience writing and maintaining automated tests using unit testing frameworks such as Jester, JUnit, or pytest.
- Experience with full stack observability tools such as HoneyBadger or Sentry for error reporting and tracing, logging, and performance metrics.
- Experience working in the HigherEd space.
- Awareness of UI/UX best practices and an interest in user-centered design.
