Responsibilities
- Building Inspector I: Under close supervision, conduct routine inspections and learn inspection policies, methods, and techniques.
- Building Inspector II: Perform full inspection duties including field inspections, plan reviews, and enforcement of a broad range of building and related codes.
- Building Inspector III: Execute all duties of Inspectors I and II, perform architectural plan checks, enforce codes, and provide administrative support.
Requirements
- ICC Residential and Commercial Building Inspector Certifications
- At least 2 years of experience as an inspector within a jurisdiction
- Working knowledge of the International Building Code, International Residential Code, International Mechanical Code, International Plumbing Code, and National Electrical Code
- Working knowledge of current construction methods, materials, tools, and equipment
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications
- Ability to detect hazards and violations and recommend corrective actions during field inspections
- Ability to enforce regulations with firmness, consistency, tact, and courtesy in the field
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- Ability to remain calm, objective, and impartial under stressful conditions
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments, contractors, and the public
- Competent use of a laptop, word processing software, and inspection software
- Competent use of a motor vehicle
- Competent use of a portable radio
- Competent use of a phone
- Competent use of a ladder or scaffolding
- Competent use of a tape measure
- Competent use of a level, hand tools, and reference codes
- Must have a high school diploma
- Must have a valid driver's license
- Must successfully complete a standard background investigation

On-site — Phoenix, Arizona, Tucson, Arizona
Other
- Work is performed mostly in field settings with considerable outdoor work required in the inspection of various land use developments, construction sites, or public works facilities.
- Hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate testing instruments, tools, computers, and various pieces of office equipment.
- The duties of this job occasionally require the employee to climb, kneel and lift up to 50 pounds.
- Must successfully complete standard background investigation.
