Responsibilities
- Ensure all standard operating procedures for humane animal treatment are properly implemented, covering areas such as scheduling, unloading, training, care of non-ambulatory animals, transport, and stunning processes.
- Regularly observe, evaluate, and record activities related to animal handling and welfare protocols.
- Gather and analyze data on sources of stressed livestock to support improvements by supply partners.
- Ensure livestock transport operators hold valid TQA certifications, deliver training when necessary, and maintain accurate training documentation.
- Support emergency preparedness by assisting in contingency planning and ensuring proper animal care during unexpected plant operation delays.
- Act as the primary point of contact with USDA-FSIS for all issues concerning humane handling practices.
- Collaborate with Quality Assurance and Product Management teams to assess how animal handling affects meat quality outcomes.
- Oversee proper animal transport practices by evaluating equipment readiness and seasonal adjustments, coordinating with Procurement to inform suppliers promptly.
- Inspect animals for visible conditions that could reduce yield or compromise product quality, and relay findings to Procurement for supplier feedback.
- Attend required meetings as assigned.
- Carry out additional duties as assigned based on operational needs.
