About the Role
The role involves applying human factors principles to engineering projects, conducting usability assessments, and guiding the development of user-friendly systems within multidisciplinary environments.
Responsibilities
- Lead human factors integration across system design and operational phases
- Conduct task analyses to understand user interactions with technology
- Develop and apply usability testing protocols for new systems
- Evaluate system interfaces for safety, efficiency, and accessibility
- Translate regulatory requirements into human-centered design solutions
- Collaborate with engineering teams to embed user considerations early in design
- Produce human factors reports and documentation for project deliverables
- Support certification and compliance processes involving human performance
- Identify risks related to human error in operational settings
- Design and lead simulation-based evaluations with end users
- Integrate feedback from stakeholders into iterative design improvements
- Apply anthropometric and ergonomic data to physical workspace layouts
- Develop training materials based on human performance analysis
- Advocate for user-centered design throughout project lifecycles
- Stay current with industry standards in human factors and usability engineering
Nice to Have
- Master’s degree in human factors, cognitive science, or systems engineering
- Experience in rail, aviation, or critical infrastructure projects
- Working knowledge of safety case development
- Prior work with automated or semi-autonomous systems
- Familiarity with international human factors standards
- Experience mentoring junior engineers
- Active participation in professional human factors organizations
