  • Create and manage the human factors engineering (HFE) strategy, execution plans, technical justifications, and safety documentation, including contributions to integrated safety analyses, safety-credited components, management controls, and safety commitments.
  • Adapt NRC human factors guidelines and fuel cycle facility review standards into a scalable, risk-informed HFE program tailored to an advanced used nuclear fuel recycling plant.
  • Assess how human factors principles are applied in safety-critical operations such as safety-credited tasks, incident response, maintenance, inspections, surveillance, material movement, and recovery procedures.
  • Lead analyses of operational experience, functional needs, task allocation, job responsibilities, staffing levels, qualification requirements, and human actions across all operational phases including startup, routine operations, shutdown, maintenance, emergencies, and degraded conditions.
  • Convert findings from task and safety evaluations into design requirements for alarms, indicators, controls, procedures, training goals, staffing models, protective equipment, radiation controls, and error prevention mechanisms.
  • Specify human-system interface (HSI) needs for control rooms, local and remote workstations, gloveboxes or hot cells, material handling systems, alarm management, displays, automation, communication tools, and digital or paper-based procedures.
  • Design and carry out verification and validation activities for human factors, including task support reviews, design checks, system integration tests, mockup evaluations, simulator sessions, site walkthroughs, tabletop drills, human-in-the-loop testing, performance metrics, and resolution of human engineering issues.
  • Develop content for licensing submissions, safety assessments, readiness evaluations, audit materials, responses to regulatory inquiries, and inspection support documentation.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams and external vendors to integrate human factors requirements early in design and maintain alignment through design changes, operational concepts, and safety assumptions.
