Responsibilities
- Deliver personal care such as bathing, grooming, oral hygiene, dressing, toileting, and incontinence care
- Help with mobility, transfers, walking, and repositioning using correct body mechanics
- Assist with eating and meal preparation following dietary guidelines and care plans
- Perform skin care and aid in preventing pressure injuries
- Keep the client care area clean, safe, and organized
- Support clients with cognitive issues, dementia, or behavioral health needs as outlined in the Plan of Care
- Observe, document, and report any changes in client condition, behavior, or environment to the supervising nurse or agency staff
- Adhere to the Plan of Care and communicate when care needs exceed scope or instructions
- Follow infection control standards and universal precautions
- Use personal protective equipment (PPE) correctly
- Maintain HIPAA compliance, respect patient rights, and uphold professional boundaries
- Report any suspected abuse, neglect, or exploitation according to New Mexico law and agency policy
- Participate in required training, competency evaluations, and in-service education
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Completion of a state-approved Home Health Aide training program or CMS-equivalent competency
- Ability to pass background check, abuse registry check, and drug screening
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Current CPR/First Aid certification or ability to obtain
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English
