Responsibilities
- Liaise the Operations leaders and front line employees to provide guidance, consultation, coaching, technical support and training on occupational health & safety and environmental subject matters.
- Investigate incidents and near misses to identify root causes and corrective actions to mitigate future occurrences. Incident can include third party incidents.
- Conduct HES assurance/audit activities.
- Maintain internal relationships including but not limited to the Legal, HES and Operations departments on a frequent basis and the Engineering and Technical departments on an occasional basis.
- Ensure that facilities are in compliance with applicable federal, provincial, state, and local regulatory safety and environmental standards and policies.
- Support operations/field personnel, as required, regularly providing guidance on programs, policies, practices and procedures.
- Respond to emergency call-out and member of Incident command. Monitor, schedule, train and conduct Emergency Drills for security and spill response.
- Provide support in the investigation of incidents as required.
- Assist with table-top emergency response exercises.
- Assist with mock emergency response drills.
- Respond to emergency incidents in the geographic area.
- Assist with the recovery and cleanup of incidents.
- Audit HES compliance calendars for Alberta, BC and Idaho terminals.
- Assist in the development, revision, and implementation of HES policies, standards, and safe work practices.
- Verify all documentation on site for completeness and consistency.
- Liaise with operations on testing and implementing policies and procedures.
- Monitor formal hazard assessments and revise as required.
- Complete task observations.
- Assist frontline managers and middle managers in completing observations.
- Assist in the implementation of corrective actions identified in observations (and incident and near miss investigations)
- Provide HES based operational training as needed.
Requirements
- 5 years of progressive experience in health and safety-related role; equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Knowledge of downstream oil and transportation, rail transloading and truck loading/unloading industry best practices.
- Current valid driver’s license required.
- Current knowledge of local, provincial, and federal occupational health and safety codes, regulations and laws.
- Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and competing priorities under tight deadlines; initiative to plan, organize, and establish priorities.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work with discretion, tact, and good judgment.
- Frequent travel is required in this role.
Nice to Have
- Relevant safety designation (e.g. CRSP, CSSC) an asset. Working towards safety designation
- Computer skills, including SharePoint.
