Responsibilities
- At the beginning of each shift, promptly review the work schedule, verify equipment and supplies needed for scheduled tasks, and prepare for operations.
- Work independently with minimal supervision as needed.
- Assess technical or physical status using the onboard computer, service documents, and review product improvement and support programs.
- Verify findings by reviewing gauge readings and procedures, comparing them to manufacturer specifications.
- Develop a plan to resolve issues, consulting with coworkers or the lead technician when necessary.
- Order parts, obtain them from stock, or send them to a specialized service shop for appropriate tooling or modifications.
- Install, replace, rebuild, or repair parts and equipment in a timely manner and according to specifications.
- Test the part or equipment and perform a quality check after completing the work.
- Paint components and pressure wash parts and equipment when needed.
- Perform general housekeeping duties as assigned and maintain company vehicles.
- At the end of each shift, secure all equipment and machinery, and complete all required paperwork.
- Work to ensure departmental compliance with all safety and contamination control guidelines.
- Maintain productivity at predetermined levels.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Successful completion of the level three service technician development program.
- Six or more years of experience in heavy equipment, engine, or electric power generation system mechanic repair.
- Knowledge of engine and equipment lines sold by the company.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the application, operation, and function of Caterpillar equipment and engines.
- Ability to use and apply all Caterpillar diagnostic tools.
- Knowledge of electrical and electronic system applications.
- Knowledge of problem-solving techniques and repair options for Caterpillar machines, engines, and components.
- Basic keyboarding skills.

Employee must operate equipment in a safe manner.
- Work Environment: While performing the duties of this Job, depending on site location, the employee may be exposed to moving mechanical parts and equipment. The employee may occasionally be exposed to high, precarious places, fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions and vibration. The employee may occasionally be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme cold; extreme heat and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in some work environments is occasionally loud.
