Smiths Group is hiring a Graduate Software Engineer (Data, Analytics, Automation & AI) 2 Years FTC

Job Purpose: The Graduate Software Engineer will support the development, enhancement and optimisation of enterprise systems, data platforms and AI-enabled capabilities across IT. Working within a global team, the role focuses on applying software engineering principles to real business challenges—leveraging data, analytics, automation and emerging AI technologies to improve operational efficiency, enable better decision-making and deliver measurable business value. This role blends hands-on engineering with business engagement, supporting the delivery of scalable solutions, proof-of-concepts and continuous improvements across platforms and processes. This is a 2 year Fixed Term Contract starting the end of September to be based from our Birmingham site, working Monday to Friday. Assessment days for this position are scheduled to take place on 8th and 9th July at our Birmingham office. Duties: Contribute to the design, development and enhancement of software solutions across enterprise platforms and systems Support delivery of data, analytics and AI use cases, including data preparation, transformation, testing and validation of outputs Develop dashboards and visualisations (e.g. Power BI) to provide actionable insights and track performance outcomes Assist in building and deploying AI and automation solutions, including GenAI use cases, process automation and intelligent workflows Work on integration and optimisation of systems to unlock value across the organisation Support data governance and data quality initiatives, ensuring reliable and trusted datasets Collaborate with engineers, data specialists and business stakeholders to translate requirements into deliverable solutions Assist with testing, deployment, monitoring and continuous improvement of solutions in production environments Help identify opportunities for automation and efficiency improvements across IT and the business Contribute to documentation, training materials and user support to drive adoption of solutions Participate in agile delivery practices You should note that your title and job description are not exhaustive, and the Company may require you from time to time to undertake other reasonable tasks within your capacity.
