Responsibilities
- Carries out diverse tasks related to the upkeep of hospital grounds and basic maintenance of buildings and facilities.
- Handles all necessary duties for the ongoing care of hospital exterior areas.
- Maintains lawns, planted beds, trees, parking areas, and walkways.
- Cuts grass and trims edges using both manual and motorized tools.
- Manages outdoor irrigation systems to water lawns and landscaped areas.
- Keeps sidewalks and outdoor spaces clear of debris and snow.
- Collaborates with supervisor to prioritize and schedule grounds maintenance tasks.
- Obtains necessary materials, supplies, and equipment for assigned jobs.
- Blends and applies fertilizers, soil enhancers, herbicides, and other chemicals in proper ratios under supervision.
- Operates and performs routine maintenance on power tools and machinery such as tractors, pole saws, pruners, blowers, chainsaws, snow removal units, and sprayers.
- Cleans sidewalks, courtyards, and walkways using hand or powered equipment.
- Trims and prunes trees, shrubs, and other vegetation.
- Conducts litter collection, leaf removal, and general area cleanups.
- Completes small-scale construction and repair tasks on retaining walls, fences, walkways, parking lots, benches, and tables.
- Applies paint to railings, guardrails, parking lot markings, and performs related exterior repairs.
- Lays and secures flagstone, granite blocks, and other paving materials.
- Assists under supervision with basic maintenance and repair of internal hospital infrastructure and supports maintenance staff.
- Documents issues and fills out service request forms detailing completed work.
- Prepares for maintenance tasks by gathering, loading, and unloading tools, materials, and supplies.
- Performs routine manual labor such as cleaning spills, collecting debris, and organizing workspaces.
- Acts as a maintenance helper for minor building repairs across the hospital campus.
- Completes tasks like hanging artwork, repairing office furniture, lubricating chair casters and bearings, and installing dispensers for toilet paper, towels, and soap.
- Mounts bulletin boards and chalkboards as needed.
- Replaces light covers and fluorescent tubes.
- Conducts minor wall repairs and performs touch-up painting.
